A laptop ready to use with KDE neon installed

The Linux Laptop Company

Current Plasma. Ubuntu LTS underneath.

KDE neon is KDE’s own image: Ubuntu LTS as the base, current Plasma and KDE apps on top. Not Kubuntu. We install it on a current Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, or Asus, test Wi-Fi and the GPU, and ship UPS Ground in 3–5 business days. Manufacturer warranty intact.

What we install Current KDE neon. Plasma, the way KDE ships it.
Not Kubuntu Kubuntu is Plasma on Ubuntu packages. neon is KDE’s own image on Ubuntu LTS.
Desktop KDE Plasma. That is the point of neon.
The hardware Name-brand OEM. Radios tested. Warranty you can take to Dell or Lenovo.

What is KDE neon on a laptop from us?

KDE neon exists so you can run current Plasma without waiting on Ubuntu’s freeze. Ubuntu LTS underneath for the base system, KDE’s packages for the desktop. People who want this already know the difference from Kubuntu.

We install current neon, not a Kubuntu we renamed. Discover, Plasma, the KDE apps — on a chassis whose Wi-Fi and GPU already work. If you want Kubuntu specifically, it is a separate option on the product page.

Same radio testing, same manufacturer warranty, same 3–5 day UPS Ground, tracking emailed before it leaves.

Who this is for

  • Plasma people who want current KDE, not last year’s packages
  • Anyone who was told “just use neon” and does not want to fight OEM firmware
  • Kubuntu users who specifically want KDE’s image instead
  • People leaving Windows who like Plasma’s layout on name-brand hardware

How we install it

On the product page, set Linux Distribution to KDE neon. Desktop is KDE Plasma — that is neon. We install the current User Edition at configuration time.

Kubuntu is listed separately if you want Plasma on Ubuntu’s own packages instead.

Same dual-boot add-on: partition the drive, BIOS boot menu.

Pick a laptop on the shop. Set Linux Distribution to KDE neon. Desktop defaults to KDE Plasma if you want the usual setup for this distro. A Linux engineer installs, configures, and tests the machine. It ships UPS Ground, typically 3–5 business days, tracking emailed before it leaves.

Other distros we install

Ubuntu LTS is the shop default. These pages cover the distros people pick on the product page. Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, MX Linux, Solus, Nobara, and LMDE are still available on the product page.

KDE neon laptop FAQs

Is KDE neon the same as Kubuntu?

No. Kubuntu is Ubuntu with Plasma from Ubuntu’s packages. KDE neon is KDE’s image: Ubuntu LTS underneath, current Plasma on top. Both are on the product page.

Which neon edition do you install?

The current User Edition at install time. Pick KDE neon on the product page.

Will Wi-Fi and the GPU work on neon?

We test Wi-Fi, GPU, audio, webcam, Bluetooth, and touchscreen before the laptop ships. If it fails, it does not leave.

Do you build these KDE neon laptops?

No. We source new name-brand machines, install KDE neon, and test them. You keep the manufacturer hardware warranty.

Can I dual-boot neon with Windows?

Yes. Dual-boot is an optional add-on. We partition the drive and the BIOS boot menu asks which OS to load each time the machine starts.

More answers are on the FAQ. How we source and test machines: pre-installed Linux laptops.
