Microsoft’s official support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025. The upgrade they want is Windows 11. Extended Security Updates are a delay, not a future — and they usually want a Microsoft account. There is a third door: a new Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, or Asus with Linux installed and tested before it ships from the USA. Browser, office suite, Wi-Fi. A local login. Manufacturer warranty still on the machine.
What happened to Windows 10
For a decade, Windows 10 was the computer most of the country used. On October 14, 2025, Microsoft stopped regular security updates, technical support, and feature work for it. If you are still on it in 2026, you are not behind on a secret. Hundreds of millions of PCs were in the same place.
Microsoft’s answer is Windows 11 — on a PC that passes their hardware checklist — or Extended Security Updates. ESU for home users has been stretched, currently through October 12, 2027 if you enroll. Enrollment is not “keep using your PC like before.” It is a Microsoft account, Microsoft Rewards, or a one-time fee, and you only get security patches. No new features. The clock is still running.
A lot of people are not trying to be difficult. Their PC still works. Windows 11 wants TPM 2.0 and a Microsoft account. Copilot and Recall are the opposite of what they asked for. They have not been told there is another operating system that looks like a computer, does not require a cloud login, and runs on a laptop Dell or Lenovo will still warranty.

You do not have to speak Linux
Linux is the engine under Android, most of the internet’s servers, and a lot of the cloud you already pay for. On a laptop it can look ordinary: a dock or a start-menu-shaped desktop, Firefox, LibreOffice for the school PDF, an app store. The word for a flavor of Linux is “distro.” You do not need that word on day one.
Our default is Ubuntu LTS with GNOME — what most tutorials assume. If you are coming from Windows and want a menu in the corner, pick Linux Mint with Cinnamon. We install it. We test Wi-Fi, GPU, audio, webcam, Bluetooth, and touchscreen. If a radio fails, it does not ship.
You keep the manufacturer hardware warranty. When a hinge fails, you call Dell or Lenovo like everyone else. That is the product: Linux on hardware a local shop can service, not a mystery chassis from another continent.

Open the box. Open the lid. Get on with it.
UPS Ground in the USA, typically 3–5 business days, tracking emailed. Browser, office suite, Wi-Fi already tested. You do not spend the weekend with a USB stick.
If what you actually wanted was privacy
A lot of people leaving Windows 10 are not looking for a hobby. They are tired of a computer that treats them like inventory — ads in the Start menu, a Microsoft account, Copilot, Recall. Not ready to commit 100%?
Dual-boot is an optional add-on. We partition the drive, keep Windows on one side, and put Linux on the other. Each time it starts, the BIOS boot menu asks which OS to load. Separate partitions. They do not step on each other. Most people are surprised how little they miss Windows once the browser, office suite, and their files live on Linux. Until you are sure, you can have both.

- Leave Ubuntu LTS if you want our recommendation, or choose Linux Mint if you want a start-menu desktop. Dual-boot if you still need Windows for one app.
- A Linux engineer installs, configures, and tests the machine in the USA.
- It ships UPS Ground, typically 3–5 business days, ready to open.

Leaving Windows 10 — questions people actually ask
Is Windows 10 really unsupported?
Mainstream support ended October 14, 2025. Microsoft’s own documentation says so. Extended Security Updates can stretch patches for enrolled PCs — currently through October 12, 2027 for the consumer program — but that is extra enrollment, not the old Windows 10. It is not a new operating system.
Do I have to buy Windows 11?
No. That is Microsoft’s upgrade path. Linux is a different operating system. We install it on a new name-brand laptop so you are not fighting firmware on a Saturday.
I have never used Linux. Will I be lost?
Ubuntu and Linux Mint are built so you can find the browser, the files, and the Wi-Fi. We set that up. A human answers the phone: 877-547-3638.
Will my Word documents and Wi-Fi work?
LibreOffice opens the .docx from school and work. Firefox and Chromium are first-class. We do not ship a laptop whose wireless, GPU, audio, webcam, Bluetooth, or touchscreen failed testing.
What about the one Windows-only program I still need?
Tell us before you order. Dual-boot keeps Windows on its own partition. Some Windows apps run under Wine or Steam Proton. Some do not. We will be honest.
Do you build these laptops?
No. We source new Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus machines, install Linux, and test them. You keep the manufacturer warranty.
