Privacy Notice

This notice is about the information this shop collects when you browse, order, email, or call. It is not the privacy-first laptop page. That page is about the machine. This page is about us.

We sell name-brand laptops with Linux installed in the USA. We keep orders. We do not store raw card numbers. We do not sell mailing lists. We do not run Google Ads on this site. We use Google Analytics to see how the shop is used.

1. Who we are

KIRE LLC is the parent company. This shop is KIRE LLC doing business as The Linux Laptop Company (“we,” “us,” “our”). You will also see TLL and TLLC. Same shop, not a second corporation. Site: thelinuxlaptop.com.

This is a US retailer of name-brand laptops with a customer-chosen Linux distro installed here. It is not kire.net shell hosting. Different product, different data, different notice.

2. What this covers

This notice covers personal information we handle in connection with:

  • this website, the cart, checkout, and customer accounts;
  • phone and email support;
  • shipping a laptop or accessory;
  • the Linux we install and the distro you chose;
  • handing a serial or service tag to an OEM if you need hardware warranty service;
  • returns and RMAs.

It does not cover the manufacturer’s sites (Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, Asus), the distro vendors, PayPal’s own app, UPS tracking pages, or other sites we link to. Those have their own notices.

3. What we collect and why

We collect what we need to sell you a laptop, ship it, tax it, support it, and keep the books. In practice that is:

  • Identity and contact. Name, email, phone, billing address, shipping address. So we can take the order, send tracking, and call you back.
  • Order contents. Chassis, RAM, storage, distro, desktop, dual-boot, accessories. So we install the right thing and can support it later.
  • Account. Login, order history, addresses you save. So you can see status without emailing us.
  • Support. Emails, tickets, and notes from a phone call. So the person who answers already knows what we shipped.
  • Hardware identifiers we may record. Serial number or service tag, if we write it down, so we can talk to the OEM with you and so we know which machine we installed.
  • Technical. IP address, browser, device, pages, referrer. Ordinary web logs, cart, and security.
  • Payment metadata. Last four digits, card brand, PayPal account identifier, processor tokens and approval codes — not the full card number. See Payments.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics (GA4), including purchase value and transaction id on the thank-you page. So we can see how the shop is used. We do not run Google Ads conversion tags on this site.

We do not keep a disk image of the laptop after it ships. The install that leaves is on the machine, not in a clone farm here.

Legal bases, for the lawyers: we process this because the contract needs it (sale, ship, support), because the law requires it (tax, accounting, fraud, export screening), and because we have a legitimate interest in running a small shop that is not on fire. Marketing mail, if we send any, is with your permission or with a clear opt-out.

4. What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not sell lists to brokers.

We do not store raw card numbers.

We do not keep disk images of the machines we ship.

We use Google Analytics. We do not run Google Ads on this site. We do not sell lists. Google still sees what Analytics sees. California: see Your rights.

5. Payments

Checkout takes cards and PayPal. Processors: PayPal and Authorize.Net. The merchant of record is KIRE LLC, doing business as The Linux Laptop Company.

The card number goes to the processor, not into our laptop-shop database. Authorize.Net may store a payment profile (a token) if you pay that way. PayPal stores what PayPal stores under its own notice. We may see last four, brand, expiration month/year, and whether the charge went through.

We do not claim this store is “PCI compliant” as a slogan. The processors handle PAN. Read PayPal’s and Authorize.Net’s notices if you want the processor’s version.

Laptop orders are invoiced in WooCommerce.

6. Hosting and parent company

The store runs on WordPress and WooCommerce on servers KIRE LLC operates, with network and hosting from Sharktech. Cloudflare sits in front for DNS, cache, and abuse protection. Cloudflare and Sharktech see IP addresses and the traffic required to keep the site up. Order, account, and support records live on those systems and in backups.

7. Who else sees data (the real list)

We give other companies only what they need to do the job we hired them for:

  • PayPal and Authorize.Net — payments.
  • UPS — ship-to name, address, phone, package contents as required to deliver.
  • Google — shop email (we use Google to send and receive mail); Google Analytics. We do not run Google Ads on this site.
  • Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, cache, and bot fight. IP address, the page requested, and a cookie if they need to tell a browser from a script.
  • Sharktech — network and hosting under the shop. Same class of technical data as any datacenter: IPs, traffic, the boxes the site runs on.
  • Semrush — SEO and how the public pages perform. Their crawler sees the public site. We do not send them your order file or a mailing list.
  • SpaceXAI — AI we use here to draft copy and to help with questions. If a person on this side pastes an order note or a support email into that tool, the provider sees that text. It is not a storefront chatbot on the product pages. Card numbers do not go there.
  • The OEM (Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, Asus) — serial or service tag and a description of the fault, if you need hardware warranty service and we help with the handoff.
  • Accountants, banks, and tax authorities — what the books and the law require.
  • Law enforcement or a court — if we are required to.

If we add a processor that sees customer data, this notice will say so.

Each of those companies has its own notice. If they are in another country, their law applies to what they hold.

8. Cookies and sessions

We use cookies and similar storage for:

  • the cart and checkout (WooCommerce);
  • your account login;
  • basic site function and abuse prevention;
  • Cloudflare (human vs bot);
  • Google Analytics.

That is more than a session cookie. It is not a cookie-wall essay. You can block cookies in the browser. The cart and account will suffer. Analytics and ads measurement will be incomplete.

We do not run a separate “accept cookies” product. If we add one, we will say so here.

9. How long we keep it

Orders, invoices, shipping records, and tax records are kept. We do not delete a purchase when the charge settles. A shop that ships, files taxes, and handles chargebacks cannot honestly say that.

We keep that file as long as tax, accounting, warranty-handoff, and fraud rules require — years, not days. Account profiles we keep until you ask us to close the account. Support mail we keep as long as it is useful to help you and to show what we already tried. Analytics follows Google’s retention for that property.

Closing an account is not the same as erasing an invoice. We can take your login down and still keep the order for the books.

10. Security

The site is served over TLS. Access to orders is limited to people here who need it. Processors handle cards. No method of running a shop on the internet is perfect. We do not promise that nothing will ever go wrong.

If we have a breach that the law says we must tell you about, we will.

11. Your rights and how to ask

You can ask us for a copy of what we have on you, ask us to fix it, ask us to close an account, and ask us to stop marketing mail. Write legal@thelinuxlaptop.com or use the postal address below. We will need enough information to know it is you.

We will not erase records we have to keep for tax, accounting, chargebacks, export screening, or fraud. We will not erase a serial we already gave an OEM for a warranty ticket just because the ticket is closed, if we still need the match.

California. We do not sell personal information for money. We do not run Google Ads on this site. We do use Google Analytics, which sends technical data to Google. You can ask us not to sell or share your personal information by emailing legal@thelinuxlaptop.com with the subject line “Do not sell or share.” We will not discriminate against you for asking. We do not currently operate a separate browser-signal opt-out beyond what Google Analytics and your browser already offer. If that changes, it will be on this page.

Marketing: if we send shop mail that is not about an order you already placed, you can opt out in the message or by emailing us. Order mail (receipts, tracking, RMA) is not marketing. We still send that.

12. Children

This shop is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under the age of majority in your state, you should not order. If we learn we have information from a child under 13, we will delete what we are allowed to delete.

13. If you are outside the United States

This is a USA shop. We ship with UPS inside the United States. If you write in from abroad, we may still answer, and we may refuse the order. If we hold your information, we hold it in the United States under US law. We do not run a GDPR representative and we do not pretend this is an EU establishment.

14. If the shop is sold

If KIRE LLC sells this business, or merges, or reorganizes, customer records go with the shop so orders, support, and warranties can continue. The buyer must use the information in a way that is consistent with this notice or must get a new permission where the law requires it.

15. Changes

We can change this notice by posting a new version here with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes: we will say so on this page, and we may email the address on your order. The new notice applies as we process information after it is posted. It does not secretly rewrite the past.
