Shipping & Returns
Last updated: 7 September 2026
We ship inside the United States with UPS Ground. Returns need an RMA. We send the label. Change of mind: 30 days, $50 restocking, outbound shipping is not refunded. If the Linux install or a radio we tested fails as shipped, that is ours. When the software fails, you call us. When the hardware fails, you call the manufacturer like everyone else.
This page is how shipping and returns work. The sale contract is the Conditions of Use. If this page and that contract ever fight, the Conditions of Use control.
Who we are
KIRE LLC is the parent company. This shop is KIRE LLC doing business as The Linux Laptop Company (“we,” “us,” “our”). People also call the shop TLL or TLLC. Same legal person. We sell name-brand laptops with Linux installed in the USA. We do not manufacture the chassis. We ship USA only.
How it ships
Carrier is UPS. Typical service is UPS Ground. After we accept the order, typical time to ship is three to five business days — we source the chassis, install your distro, test the radios, then pack it. Then UPS transit. Dates are estimates, not a guaranteed delivery day.
Tracking is emailed when the package leaves. If you did not get it, check spam and then call us. We do not hand a laptop to a different carrier unless you insist on your own account.
We ship to addresses inside the United States. We do not run an export desk. PO Boxes: UPS has its own rules; if Ground will not deliver there, we will say so before it leaves.
Shipping cost
Shipping is extra unless the product page or checkout says otherwise. We do not reimburse outbound shipping — what you paid to send the machine to you stays paid, including on a return.
Sales tax, if we have to collect it, is shown at checkout.
Missing, wrong, or damaged in transit
If we pick the carrier (we do), loss or damage in transit is our problem until UPS delivers. If you insist on your own carrier or your own account, loss in transit is yours.
Tell us within thirty (30) days of the invoice or shipment notice if anything is missing, wrong, or damaged. Keep the box. Take pictures. Do not throw away the packing until we say so.
Returns and RMA
Thirty (30) days from shipment to request a return. You need an RMA first. We send the return label.
Contact us before you ship anything back: thelinuxlaptop.com/contact-us/, 877-547-3638, or info@thelinuxlaptop.com. We will give you a Return Material Authorization and a UPS label. Do not drop a laptop at a UPS store with no RMA. If you skip the RMA or the instructions, lost or damaged returns are not our problem.
Product must come back in the boxes it left in, with the accessories that shipped with it, in a condition we can resell. Original packaging matters because these are name-brand chassis, not white boxes. Do not peel off the service tag.
We do not sell refurbished or open-box machines as laptops. A return here is a return of a new machine we configured, not a restock of used inventory from someone else.
The three usual cases
- Change of mind / no defect. 30 days, RMA, our label, $50 restocking, no outbound-shipping refund. Refund is the price you paid for the returned items, minus restocking and minus outbound shipping.
- Linux install or a radio we tested fails as shipped. That is ours. We fix it or we take the machine back. No restocking fee on that return. Tell us within 30 days.
- Hardware defect (hinge, panel, keyboard, OEM failure). That is the manufacturer’s warranty. We will help you start that process. We may accept an RMA ourselves if that is cleaner; if we do, we will say so on the RMA.
Partial returns: if you return only part of a bundle, the credit may be less than a line-item price because of how the bundle was sold.
Exchanges work the same way as returns: RMA first, our label, then we ship the replacement when we have the old unit or when we agree otherwise.
Refunds
Refunds go back to the original payment method when the processor allows it. Restocking is deducted before we issue the refund, not billed as a separate surprise after. We refund after we receive the return and check it, not when you drop it at UPS.
Hardware warranty is still the manufacturer’s
When the software fails, you call us. When the hardware fails, you call the manufacturer like everyone else. Installing Linux does not replace that warranty. Lifetime Linux support is included with a laptop we sold you. It is not a hardware warranty. Detail is in the Conditions of Use.
